The Most Common Resume Mistake
Q. What's the most common mistake I see in resumes?
A. Leaving out your accomplishments and writing a list of roles & responsibilities under each job.
Most clients I speak with don't feel as though they accomplished anything, but there are always ways to turn a R&R into an accomplishment!
Example: Used data-driven approach to manage global accounts.
Accomplishment: Grew global account revenue by 50% in 6 months through data-driven client growth strategies
Example: Proactively monitor customer service needs and solve client challenges to ensure timely closing deadlines by implementing efficient solutions.
Accomplishment: list examples of specific challenges you solved that had a positive impact of the company (e.g. Resolved critical technical error, saving the client millions of dollars), or you could quantify the efficiency by saying you saved the company time or money or both (e.g. elevated support ticket resolution rate from 50% to 100% by implementing xyz)
If you're still having trouble with this, no worries! I can help. This is why I take a personalized approach to resume writing and sit down with my clients in a consultation and pull all relevant details out of them. My goal is for clients to walk away feeling a renewed sense of confidence in their job search by seeing all the amazing things they've accomplished on paper!
